Chickpea & Sweet Potato Chat

Serves: 4 

Sweet Potato4 large
Chickpeas2 cansdrained
Oilas needed
Saltto taste
Cumin powder1 tsp
Coriander powder1 tsp
Smoked paprika1 tsp
Turmeric1 tsp
Ginger powder1/2 tsp
Cinnamon powder1/2 tsp
Cardamom powder1/2 tsp
Red chili powder1/2 tsp
Cilantro chutney
Lemon juiceto tasteas needed


  • Pressure cook sweet potatoes for 1 - 2 whistles until just cooked
  • Allow to cool, peel and chop into cubes or rounds
  • Toss the chickpeas with oil, salt, and spice powders in a bowl until thoroughly coated
  • Spread chickpeas on a baking sheet (1 half pan or 2 quarter pans) and cook for 20 - 25 minutes at 425F until blistered in some spots
  • Make raita with sweet onions, tomato, and/or cucumbers
  • Assemble the chat in layers - papdi, sweet potato, roasted chickpeas, raita, cilantro sauce, pickled onions or jalapenos, and lemon juice
